Dear Students and Esteemed Visitors,
As the Head of the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Marmara University's Faculty of Engineering, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of you.
Metallurgical and Materials Engineering is one of the oldest and most important engineering disciplines, having played a central role in human progress from the Stone Age to the Space Age. It continues to influence both the pace and the limits of technological development. Today, advances in fields such as aerospace, biomaterials, energy, automotive engineering, defense technologies, and nanotechnology depend largely on the development of stronger, lighter, smarter, and more sustainable materials. Our department aims to contribute to these developments through its research activities and by educating engineers who are well prepared to meet the needs of modern industry and society.
Our undergraduate program is taught entirely in English and is regularly updated in line with scientific and technological developments. Our experienced academic staff, who are actively involved in research at the international level, conduct a wide range of studies in our departmental laboratories. Our main research areas include biomaterials, aerospace and defense materials, nanotechnology and nanomaterial synthesis, advanced ceramics, casting and solidification, absorbent materials, battery materials, additive manufacturing, surface modification, and coating technologies. Many of these studies are carried out through research projects supported by national and international funding organizations. Alongside these research activities, we place particular importance on providing students with practical experience. Laboratory studies using modern equipment allow our students to apply the theoretical knowledge they acquire in the classroom.
The English-medium education offered by our department, together with our MÜDEK accreditation, provides our graduates with valuable opportunities for their professional and academic careers, both in Türkiye and abroad. Through Erasmus+ and other international exchange programs, our students have the opportunity to study at universities in different countries and gain international experience. Our close cooperation with industry also plays an important role in their education. Student-oriented research and development programs, including projects supported by TÜBİTAK and TUSAŞ LIFT UP, enable our students to take part in research activities and gain valuable experience before graduation.
Our department has been graduating engineers since 2005, building on the educational standards and quality culture of Marmara University's Faculty of Engineering. Throughout these years, our primary objective has been to educate engineers who possess the knowledge and skills required by the changing demands of the 21st century. However, we believe that a good engineering education should go beyond technical competence. We also aim to educate individuals who respect professional ethics, are aware of their responsibilities towards society and the environment, and recognize the importance of sustainability in engineering practice.
Your curiosity, willingness to learn, interest in research, and enthusiasm for discovering new things are among our greatest sources of motivation. We believe that the knowledge you acquire throughout your studies, together with the practical experience you gain in our laboratories under the guidance of our academic staff, will provide a strong foundation for your future careers and enable you to contribute to technological progress.
Metallurgical and Materials Engineering offers a rewarding career at the intersection of scientific research and industrial development.
