From Head of Department

Dear Students,

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to you for choosing the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Marmara University. May your academic journey at Marmara University bring prosperity to you, your family, and our nation. Please know that we are doing our utmost to provide you with the best possible opportunities and to deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate education.

The 21st century has become an era of rapid change, where major challenges and opportunities coexist. We are living in a time when climate change and pandemics pose significant threats to humanity and demand urgent action. At the same time, access to knowledge via the internet and distance learning has become increasingly prominent. Artificial intelligence is becoming more deeply integrated into our lives every day. Our goal is to provide a metallurgical and materials engineering education that not only addresses these global challenges but also makes use of the opportunities presented by AI, the internet, and other technologies.

In line with the quality culture of the Faculty of Engineering, the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering has been graduating engineers since 2005, continuously educating professionals suited for the demands of the 21st century. One of the greatest strengths of our department is our academic staff. Many of our faculty members have earned their PhDs and conducted research abroad, and some have even taught at international institutions. Throughout your undergraduate studies, we will ensure that you have the opportunity to take courses from all of our faculty members so you can benefit from their knowledge and experience. Easy access to information via the internet has not diminished the need for academic instructors—on the contrary, it has made them even more essential. The ability of instructors to share not only knowledge but also experience and perspective in the classroom, and to help students validate what they learn from other sources, has become crucial in building self-confidence and ensuring a comprehensive engineering education.

We have recently moved to our new campus, the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Complex. You are now studying in more modern and spacious classrooms and laboratories. Our student and research laboratories are significantly more advanced and better equipped than before. We are committed to helping you make the most of these resources so that you graduate with strong skills in experimentation and research. In your final year, we aim to expand our collaborations with leading companies to provide long-term internship opportunities. This will enable you to begin working in the companies where you wish to pursue your career even before graduation.

By the end of your four-year education, you will be well-equipped to learn independently, conduct research, solve problems, and work effectively as part of a team. You will be qualified to work as metallurgical and materials engineers anywhere in the world. As members of the Marmara University family, you will carry this honor with you throughout your lives.

Once again, I warmly welcome you to the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Marmara University, and I wish you great success.
